Get to Know Me!

Hi, I’m Zoe! I was born and raised in a teeny tiny town in south-central Pennsylvania. I received my BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art where I studied art history, art education, and curatorial studies. After college, I moved to Korea and taught English for a few years and loved it so much. When I returned from Korea, I took a job as Education Director at a small art gallery in South Carolina. I’ve been here since 2020 and have loved having so many opportunities to engage with art.

I can’t commit to a single medium to save my life, and instead enjoy ping ponging around from one to the other. Learning new artistic skills is one of my favorite hobbies. I always describe myself as a fiber artist, and especially love embroidery, but these days I do more pottery than anything else.

Every place I’ve lived, every skill I’ve learned, and every interest I’ve had all find themselves in my art. I was an outdoor kid growing up, always camping and hiking every chance I got, soaking up all the sights and the sounds. This really informs a lot of my work, and I love to incorporate plants, animals, and creepy crawlies into much of what I do. My second largest source of inspiration comes from my students at the gallery. I get to help foster so much creativity and I’m constantly inspired by the wonderful things my students create.
